Challenging Myths of Open Access Online
Despite lowering barriers and increasing equity, ideas of “open access” can have negative connotations in the academic world. In this panel, three faculty members from across campus will push against stereotypes of open access to explore how it benefits students, researchers, and the university. Brian Young (University Libraries) will discuss how pre-tenure faculty can publish open access; Anne Cafer (Sociology) will cover running an open access journal and the pros and cons of the process, and Robert E Cummings (Writing and Rhetoric) will showcase open educational resources and how their employment benefits campus as a whole. Moderated by Greg Johnson (University Libraries).
